Juicy cabbage rolls with grated potatoes: how to improve a traditional Ukrainian dish
Cabbage rolls is not only a traditional Ukrainian cabbage dish, but also an object of Ukraine's intangible cultural heritage. That's why every housewife in our country has her own recipe for cooking them.
But sometimes you want to diversify the usual dish a little bit and add new flavors to it. This is exactly what food blogger Myroslava Pekaryuk did when she posted a recipe for cabbage rolls with grated potatoes on her Instagram.
Ingredients
- Cabbage - 1 piece
- Potatoes - 400 gr
- Semolina - 20 gr
- Onion - 1 pc
- Egg - 1 pc
- Sour cream - 1 tbsp
- Water - 120 ml
- Salt
- Pepper
Method of preparation
1. Add semolina to salted boiling water, stir constantly until the porridge thickens, and set aside.
2. Dice the onion, fry it a little and mix it with the semolina.
3. Grate the potatoes on a fine grater (like for pancakes) and drain them.
4. Mix the potatoes with the semolina, add sour cream, salt, pepper, egg and mix.
5. Cut out a head of cabbage, put it in a plastic bag, tie it up, microwave it for 5 minutes, then remove the leaves and leave it to cool slightly.
6. Cut each leaf in half, cut out the middle, put the filling on it, and gently roll it into a tube (the filling is liquid, as it should be).
7. Put the rest of the cabbage in the pan on the bottom, carefully place the cabbage rolls on top, and cover them with water (a little more than half the pan).
8. Bake for 45 minutes at 180 degrees. Leave to cool.
9. Fry them in a frying pan (it is best to do this the next day, when the cabbage rolls have been sitting out) with vegetable oil until golden brown, add salt and enjoy with sour cream.
