Is plant milk healthy and whether children drink it? Svitlana Fus gave the answer
Vegetable milk is a great alternative for those with lactose intolerance or casein allergy, as well as high cholesterol levels. Among all types, there are three most popular ones that will appeal to everyone's taste: oat, almond, and soy.
Of course, when choosing this product, everyone should focus on the quality, naturalness, taste, and, of course, safety of the product.
Nutritionist Svitlana Fus shared on Instagram whether plant milk is healthy and what it consists of, and explained whether it can be drunk by children.
"Vegetable milk is a drink based on pomace from seeds, nuts, and water is also added," Fus said.
Are all types of milk healthy?
"All drinks (types of milk) will have different amounts of vitamins. For example, if we compare soy and peanut milk, peanut milk has more vitamin E," the nutritionist said.
What does cinnamon milk have in common with plant-based drinks?
"The color and liquid consistency," the nutritionist said.
Who can drink this milk?
"It's great for people who are allergic to cow's milk protein, as well as for people with lactose intolerance," Fus said.
Is there any milk that should not be given to children?
"This is rice milk. It is not recommended for children under 4-5 years of age because of the possible arsenic content in rice bran used to make the product," says Svitlana Fus.
Popular types of plant milk and their beneficial properties:
1. Oat milk
It contains beta-glucans that have a positive effect on the immune system. In addition, calcium and vitamins A and D are often added to industrially produced plant milk.
2. Soy milk
It contains more vegetable protein. This makes it similar to cow's milk. Soy cream and yogurt are also produced on its basis.
"Look for soy milk without added fat and added sugar," the expert advised.
3. Coconut milk
It is more fatty and high in calories than all types of vegetable milk.
"Such drinks can be present in our diet, but it is important to understand that they will not replace the beneficial properties of dairy products, and should be included in a healthy diet in small quantities every day," the nutritionist said.
How to make plant milk at home and how to store it properly?
It's enough to choose good products and the right recipe.
"It is most often used for baking, added to coffee, as well as salad dressings and even when stewing vegetables," the expert summarized.
