In recent years, Japanese mochi dessert cakes have gained considerable popularity around the world. Having tasted this dessert, it may seem that it is extremely difficult to prepare, but in fact, it is not at all.

You can make a sophisticated Japanese mochi dessert at home without much effort. A food blogger with the nickname iriska_dimitrova shared how to do it on Instagram.

Ingredients

  • glutinous rice flour - 100 gr
  • powdered sugar - 50 gr
  • corn starch - 15 g
  • oil - 1 tbsp
  • water - 170 ml
  • coloring - optional

Ingredients for the filling

  • ice cream - 500 g

Method of preparation

1. Pour glutinous rice flour, powdered sugar and cornstarch into a bowl. Add coloring, water and vegetable oil. Mix everything thoroughly to avoid lumps.

2. Pour the dough into a preheated frying pan and cook over low to medium heat, stirring constantly and gathering the dough together.

3. When the dough becomes homogeneous, without light drops, translucent and elastic, cook for a few more minutes. Do not forget to constantly knead the dough with a spatula.

4. Roll the dough in cornstarch, cover with plastic wrap, and let it cool to room temperature.

5. For the filling, use a special spoon to form half-balls of ice cream and put them in the freezer to freeze well.

6. When the dough has cooled and the filling is frozen, sprinkle the surface with cornstarch and roll out the dough into a layer about 3 millimeters thick.

7. Cut out circles, place a scoop of ice cream on each and gather the edges on all sides.

8. Seal well and cut off the excess dough with scissors. Form the mochi and dust with cornstarch.

9. Put the mochi in the freezer in a hermetically sealed container and freeze it very well for several hours.

10. Before eating, defrost in the refrigerator until the dough is soft but the ice cream is not melted.
