There is nothing wrong with eating stress, on the contrary, it is the body's natural reaction to negative emotions. However, it is important what products a person chooses.

According to nutritionist Eugenia Rozum in an interview with KP in Ukraine, often negative emotions, including offenses, disappointments, negative events, make you "constantly want to eat". She emphasized that this is a natural reaction of the body, which is provoked by hormones, physiology and human psychology.

According to the expert, a psychologist can cope with most cases of "stress eating". He should also offer a number of alternatives to the irrepressible appetite when fast food, sweets and other "unhealthy food" are in play.

"He will help to realize that food is not the solution to the problem," noted Rozum.

She also explained why in a stressful situation "is drawn to sweets." It turns out that such foods "send a person back to childhood," when trying to comfort the child, mom or people close to him treated him to cookies, candy.

"Who didn't calm down by getting a sweet? But here you need to understand that we are no longer children and you can no longer hide behind your mother and that, having eaten, we will not be "in the house"," - said the nutritionist.

She did not recommend refusing to eat in stressful situations, but emphasized that stress eating "should be approached wisely," as the emphasis on certain foods will not only not interfere with getting out of stress, but will even help to overcome it easily, without harm to health.

Rozum gave a number of recommendations on what foods are best to choose during stressful times and how to eat them.

Fruits. According to the nutritionist, they are not as harmless as they seem. According to the doctor, in this case it is better to stop at berries, even frozen.

Better than fruit is berry.

Nuts. Here you should be careful about their quantity. Eugenia Rozum suggests limiting yourself to the amount of nuts that fit in the palm of your hand. Their overeating threatens: load on the liver, pancreas and in general on the body.

This is a healthy product, but very high in calories.

Avocados. They can become an alternative to nuts. They have both healthy vegetable fats, a small amount of protein, and vitamin C. Besides, you can't eat a lot of them.

Source of omega-3 fatty acids and B vitamins .

Citrus fruits. It is a treasure trove of vitamin C, which helps to reduce stress hormones, but it is worth setting boundaries: one orange, a couple of tangerines, half a grapefruit. A fruit salad with citrus fruits, berries and yogurt is a good option.

Citrus fruits contain antioxidants that can reduce oxidative stress.

Vegetables. According to the expert, they should become the main food on the table of a person who is struggling with stress. During an emotional crisis, Rozum advises to eat sweet peppers, tomatoes, all green-colored vegetables and carrots.

All green-colored vegetables are champions of vitamin B content.

Cereals. Suitable: chickpeas, lentils, beans, green peas, buckwheat, oatmeal. According to the nutritionist, most cereals contain magnesium, a large amount of B vitamins, which are indispensable for stress. They can be added both to broth and cooked with vegetables.

Broths. The nutritionist emphasizes that this is an excellent "remedy for stress". They contain amino acids that will help calm both the brain and the intestines, and give a feeling of warmth, comfort and calm - all that is lacking in stressful situations.

A low-fat broth - on chicken, turkey, rabbit, fish, or maybe vegetable soup - is good for stress .

Chocolate. The specialist agreed that it works well as an antioxidant and as a stimulant of the brain. But warned that two or three squares of this treat a day - enough to help the body under stress.

Works well as both an antioxidant and a brain stimulant.

Also Eugenia Rozum warned against dieting during the period of upheaval. According to her, dieting during stress is contraindicated, as it is already a stress factor for the body.
