How to properly wash lettuce leaves to get rid of dangerous bacteria: tips

Lettuce is an essential product in the diet of millions of people. It is not only tasty, but also very healthy. But only if you use them properly. For example, if you wash lettuce leaves improperly, it will negatively affect your health.

The fact is that quite often, E. coli and other microorganisms can be found on the surface of lettuce leaves, which can have a detrimental effect on human health. FoodOboz.ua figured out how to properly wash lettuce leaves to make them safe for consumption.

Richard Price, the owner of Brit Superstore, explained in detail how to wash lettuce to make sure it is free of bad bacteria. He gave a few basic principles to follow:

1. Before touching lettuce leaves or other food, you should wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.

2. Fill the sink with cold water about 2/3 full and add 3-4 tablespoons of baking soda.

3. Immerse the lettuce leaves in the water and leave them there for 12-15 minutes. The head of lettuce should be completely submerged in the baking soda water.

4. Remove the lettuce from the sink, rinse it under running water and shake it off.

Now you can safely eat the salad and not be afraid that dangerous bacteria will get into your body.
