How to properly store open champagne: expert advice
Champagne is a delicious, light drink that creates a festive atmosphere. There are many different types of this drink out there, so everyone can definitely choose their own. But don't forget that champagne is a drink that can quickly lose its great taste if it is not stored properly.
The FoodOboz editorial team has selected some useful life hacks for you, which were published on the INSIDER website, which will help you store open champagne for a long time and properly.
Beverage manager Adam Godd said that the best thing to do is to drink champagne on the opening day. This is the only way to experience the true flavor and aroma of the drink.
1. How to store champagne properly
"If an unopened bottle of champagne is not stored properly, it can last for a very long time – even for several generations," Goddu says. The expert noted that it is best to store champagne on its side so that the cork does not dry out and oxidize, which can worsen the taste. It can also be stored in a cellar, away from direct light at a normal temperature of 10-12 C.
Goddu added that open champagne does not last long in the refrigerator because it will not hold its own due to dryness and temperature fluctuations when the door is opened and closed, and it will also pick up odors from food stored nearby.
But if the champagne is sealed, it can be stored in the refrigerator for six months.
2. How long and how to store open champagne
Goddu recommends putting a cork on a bottle of champagne.
"This will give you an extra day or so to enjoy the drink, although it won't taste quite the same as it did originally," the expert added.
3. How to tell if champagne has spoiled
The drink will have a sour taste and a musty odor.
