How to properly dry tomatoes at home: 2 best ways
Sun-dried tomatoes are a great addition to many dishes, for example, you can add them to pizza, soups, salads, and even porridge, they will give the usual food an amazing taste and aroma. They can be easily prepared at home in a special dryer, oven, and even in the microwave.
The FoodOboz editorial team shares 2 recipes for sun-dried tomatoes with herbs and oil that you can easily prepare at home, as well as tips on how to store them properly.
1. Sun-dried tomatoes in the oven
Ingredients:
- tomatoes – 2 kg
- salt – 1.5 tsp
- sugar – 2.5 tsp
- pepper – to taste
- dried and fresh herbs – to taste
- garlic – 3-4 cloves
- olive oil – 250 ml
Method of preparation:
- Wash the tomatoes well, and cut them into slices, preferably removing the core.
- Cover a baking sheet with parchment and place the tomatoes.
- Peel the garlic, and cut it into thin slices.
- In a separate bowl, mix the sugar, salt, herbs and sprinkle generously over the tomatoes, and drizzle with olive oil.
- Put in the oven for 2 hours at 100 C.
- Afterward, put the finished tomatoes in a jar, pour over the oil, and add a little balsamic vinegar.
2. Dried tomatoes in an electric dryer
Ingredients:
- Plum tomato – 4 kg
- Salt – to taste
- The mixture of Italian herbs – to taste
- Oil – 0.7 liters
- Garlic – to taste
- Rosemary – optional
Method of preparation:
- Wash the tomatoes, dry them, and cut them in half.
- Use a teaspoon to remove the core and leave it for 10 minutes to dry.
- Then put them in a dryer, sprinkle them with spices, turn it on, and dry the vegetables.
- Put the finished vegetables in sterile jars, add oil to the very top, garlic cloves, rosemary, and close well.
It is worth noting that dried tomatoes can be stored not only in jars but also in containers in the refrigerator.
