How to pickle lard with garlic and spices
Lard is a delicious, hearty traditional Ukrainian product that can be eaten in any form: raw, baked, fried, boiled, and added to various dishes. If you want to cook lard quickly and without any hassle, the best way is to simply pickle it. Knowing some of the nuances of cooking, lard turns out to be very tender, soft and just melts in your mouth.
Food blogger Olha Palenko (opium_foodie) shared a recipe for pickled lard with garlic and spices on her Instagram page.
Ingredients:
- lard
- salt
- garlic
- spices
Method of preparation:
1. Pass the garlic through a press.
2. Rub a piece of lard first with salt and garlic and then spices on all sides. Wrap it in plastic film and put it in the refrigerator overnight.
3. Put in a bag or wrap it in another layer of plastic film. Put it in a saucepan with cold water.
4. Cook over medium heat on one side for 1 hour. Then turn to the other side and cook for another hour.
5. After cooking, let the lard cool completely in the pan.
6. Remove the lard. Wipe it with a paper towel if needed.
7. Store the finished lard in the refrigerator or freezer.
