How to pickle herring: recipe for the most successful marinade

Homemade marinated herring is a delicious budget appetizer that will perfectly complement the daily and festive table. Usually marinate fish with vegetables: carrots or onions, and also make sure to prepare a marinade.

Foodblogger Oksana Dorosh (oksana_dorosh_rezeptu) on her Instagram page shared a recipe for homemade pickled herring and a successful marinade for fish.

Ingredients:

  • herring fillet (lightly salted) - 400 g
  • onion - 1 pc
  • water - 1\2 liters
  • bay leaf
  • allspice
  • black pepper peas
  • cloves - 2-3 pcs
  • sugar - 1 tsp.
  • vinegar - 2 tbsp. l
  • onion (for serving)

Preparation method:

1. Peel and slice onion into half rings.

2. To prepare the marinade, mix water, pepper, cloves, bay leaf and sugar. Salt can be given if desired. Put on the fire and bring to a boil.

3. When the marinade comes to a boil, turn off the heat, add the vinegar and onions. Cover the pot with a lid and cool.

4. Cut the herring in pieces, lay it in the cooled marinade and leave it for several hours.
