How to make quince jam correctly: 3 types of delicious preparation for the winter
Quince season is at the end of September. When fresh, the fruit is quite tart and sour – not everyone likes it. But it is an ideal option for making jam because, in combination with other ingredients, all the flavors are revealed in a new way and complement each other.
Today, FoodOboz editorial team shares three ideas for making delicious quince jam in different ways.
To make jam, it is best to choose ripe, undamaged fruits that are firm and fibrous.
Classic quince jam
Ingredients:
- quince - 1 kg
- sugar - 5 cups
- water - 5 glasses
Method of preparation:⠀
- Rinse the quince fruit, put it in a saucepan, and cover it with water so that it completely covers the fruit. Bring to a boil and boil for 10 minutes.
- Quickly transfer the fruit to cold water, peel, core, and cut into quarters.
- Add sugar to the water in which the fruit was cooked.
- Boil the syrup over medium heat, skimming off the foam from time to time.
- Pour over the quince and leave for 3-4 hours. ⠀
- Put the pot of jam on the stove and boil for 5-8 minutes. Shake the pot in a circular motion to make it easier to remove the foam.
- Remove the pan from the heat and let the fruit brew for 8-10 hours.
- Such operations should be repeated 3-4 times in intervals of 8 hours.
- The fruit should be completely covered with syrup.
Important: Do not immediately cover the hot product with a lid so that moisture does not condense under it, which can provoke mold formation. Only the next day, when the jam has cooled down, should it be covered. Store in a cool place.
Royal quince jam:
Ingredients:
quince - 1 kg
sugar - 1 kg
water - 1 glass
nuts (hazelnuts or walnuts) - 1 cup
Method of preparation:
- Rinse the quince, and remove the villi and core.
- Cut the fruit into large round pieces. To prevent them from turning black, add a pinch of citric acid and water.
- Dip the fruit into the boiling syrup, bring to a boil over medium heat, and remove from the stove.
- Cool and boil three more times. Add nuts for the last time.
- Pour into sterilized jars.
How to check if the jam is ready
Pour a little syrup into a saucer and make a path with a spoon. If it does not spread, the product is ready. The jam is fragrant, and of a pleasant amber color, and the fruit remains intact.
