How to make an exquisite Italian dish from yesterday's bread: recipe
If you have some white bread left over from yesterday, but don't want to throw it away, you can make a pretty delicious Italian dish. And it won't be something trivial.
The recipe for bread meatballs or cutlets, originally from Abruzzo (Italy), was posted on his Instagram page by food blogger Eduard Nasirov. According to him, the dish was not invented from easy peasant life, as is often the case, and has become very popular over time.
It's very simple to prepare, using affordable ingredients, and it tastes unrivaled – Italian.
Ingredients:
- 400 g of yesterday's white bread
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 tbsp of capers
- 1 stalk of celery
- 1 tsp of Italian herbs
- 4 eggs
- 100 g of grated pecorino or parmesan cheese
- salt, and pepper to taste
- oil for frying
- tomato sauce for serving
Method of preparation:
1. Cut the bread into slices and cover with cold water (sometimes milk is used) for 5 minutes. Squeeze well. Finely chop capers, celery, and garlic.
2. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and knead the minced meat, forming meatballs or patties with wet hands.
3. Fry the patties in hot oil for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown or bake the meatballs in the oven/fry in deep fat.
4. Heat the tomato sauce. Serve the meatballs hot with the tomato sauce.
