How to cook peas for porridge to make them soft: no lumps

Ordinary yellow peas make a very tasty and satisfying porridge. It is often served with sauerkraut or fried bacon. But it is very important to cook the peas properly so that they are soft and lump-free.

The idea of cooking delicious pea porridge was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Yuliia Senych (yuliia.senych). The product must be soaked before boiling.

Ingredients:

  • split peas – 1 cup
  • water – 3 cups
  • salt/pepper – to taste
  • butter - 50 g
  • garlic – 1 clove
  • lard or bacon – 200 g
  • onion – 1 pc
  • carrots – 1 pc

Method of preparation:

1. Rinse the porridge and cover with hot water.

2. Leave for at least an hour, preferably overnight.

3. Drain the water and add clean water in a ratio of 1:3 (porridge 1: water 3).

4. Cook for about an hour.

5. Chop the onion and fry until golden brown.

6. Grate the carrots, and add to the onions.

7. When the water barely covers the peas, add the roast.

8. Cook until thickened.

9. At the end of cooking, add salt/pepper, butter, and grated garlic to the porridge.

10. Grind the porridge to a puree.

11. Fry bacon or lard in a dry frying pan and add to the porridge.

6. Serve the porridge with a slice of butter and bacon.
