How to cook millet with lard: turns out tender and not bitter
Millet is a very budget-friendly and easy-to-cook grain. However, it has a slightly bitter flavor and a rather dense texture. That's why it goes well with vegetables and fatty ingredients.
Food blogger Bohdana Klymenko shared a recipe for baked millet on her Instagram page. According to the recipe, the cereal is complemented with lard, fried onions and cream, which fix the bitterness and make the millet very tender and flavorful.
Ingredients:
- millet - 300 g
- lard/bacon - 100 g
- onion - 1 pc
- garlic - 2 cloves
- salt, spices
- cream - 50 ml
- herbs
- boiling water - 600 ml
Method of preparation:
1. Rinse the millet and soak it for 30 minutes.
2. Chop the lard/bacon, onion and garlic.
3. Fry the lard first, then the onion and garlic.
4. Put the fried lard, onion and garlic in a casserole and add the millet.
5. Pour boiling water, salt and spices. Bake at 190 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
6. Add cream 10 minutes before the end of cooking.
7. Add the herbs at the end of cooking.
