If you want to cook fluffy rice, rinse it under cold water about 5 times before cooking until the water runs clear. This way, you will get rid of the starch that is responsible for the stickiness.

It's worth noting that to make rice cook faster, you can soak it for 30 to 60 minutes.

How much water it takes for cooking rice

It is generally believed that twice as much water is needed to cook this cereal. But this is an approximate proportion.

It is better to measure the volume of liquid based on the type of rice:

  • for long-grain - 1: 1.5 - 2;
  • for medium-grain - 1: 2 - 2.5;
  • for round grain - 1: 2.5 - 3;
  • for steamed - 1: 2;
  • for brown - 1: 2.5 - 3;
  • for wild - 1: 3.5.

It is important to read the instructions on the package, as the manufacturer knows exactly what treatment the rice has been subjected to and suggests the optimal amount of water for the cereal.

How long to cook rice

The cooking time can be from 20 to 60 minutes, but it all depends on the type of rice.

  • for white - 20 minutes;
  • for steamed - 30 minutes;
  • for brown rice - 40 minutes;
  • for wild rice - 40-60 minutes.

When the rice is cooked, remove it from the heat and let it stand for 10-15 minutes under the lid. If there is any water left in the cooked porridge, drain or cover the pan with a dry towel to absorb excess moisture.

Which cookware is best for cooking rice

Experts recommend using a thick-bottomed pot, as it distributes the temperature evenly.

First, bring well-salted water to a boil, and then add the cereal. Mix well so that the grains do not stick to the bottom. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat, cook for another 10 minutes, and never lift the lid.

Rice can also be cooked in meat broth, flavored with herbs and citrus zest.
