How to cook cabbage for cabbage rolls so that it is soft: tips and recipe

Homemade cabbage rolls are the perfect dish for a hearty lunch or dinner. You can use meat, mushrooms, vegetables, Korean carrots, and potatoes for the filling.

The cook shared on Instagram a recipe for delicious homemade stuffed cabbage rolls that are very juicy.

Ingredients:

  • Cabbage – 1 head (larger than medium)
  • Minced meat – 600 g
  • Rice – 200 g
  • Onion – 1 pc
  • Carrots – 1 pc
  • Garlic – 5 cloves in the filling and 5 in the sauce
  • Smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper
  • Tomatoes in their juice – 400 g

Method of preparation:

1. Cut out the head of cabbage and start cooking in a large saucepan. Gradually, carefully remove the cabbage leaf by leaf with tongs. Each time, remove a layer of cabbage, cook for 2-3 minutes, and then remove it again. Until there is no more cabbage left. Remove the leaves from the remaining cabbage and put half of it on the bottom of the pan.

2. For the filling: rinse the rice at least 5-6 times. Make sure the water is clean. Add the rice, garlic, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and chopped herbs to the minced meat. Dice the onion and grate the carrots. Fry together and let cool. Add the minced meat and rice to the mix and mix until smooth.

3. Divide the cabbage leaves into two parts, cut off the dense center. Put the minced meat in the leaf and form triangles.

4. Place the cabbage rolls fairly closely together on the leaves in a saucepan. Cover with the remaining leaves. Pour tomatoes and water to cover the cabbage rolls. Add salt, pepper, garlic, and your favorite spices to the sauce.

5. Cook over medium heat for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Cover and let stand for another 30 minutes.
