5 mistakes when cooking cereals in the traditional way
Tips from food blogger schiborschi_school published on her Instagram page.
Boiling unwashed cereals
You need to rinse the cereal under running water until it becomes transparent. Then put it on a sieve to drain the liquid. This will make the cereal crumbly and whole.
Violation of proportions
The ratio of water to cereal is very important because it affects the consistency and taste of the dish. The standard proportions are 1 to 2, but you should always look at the manufacturer's recommendations, because the product may already be pre-processed and will cook faster, respectively.
Boiling over high heat
This makes the porridge more boiled. Any cereal should be cooked over low or medium heat.
Cooking milk cereals directly with milk
It's best to start cooking with water, then add milk and bring it to a boil.
You can use cream instead of milk.
Use thin-walled dishes
It is best to use thick-walled dishes – this way the temperature will not change during cooking and the heat will not aggressively affect the cereal. The optimal thickness is 3-4 mm.
You can also quickly cook cereals in a frying pan – you will get a wonderful pilaf.
