How to clean a pomegranate: 3 easy ways. Video
How many times have you wanted to buy a pomegranate, but gave up on the idea just because you were intimidated by the thought of having to peel it?
We know, we've been there. But we also know that, if you know a few lifehacks, cleaning pomegranates won't be difficult.
The FoodOboz editorial team tells you how to clean this naughty fruit so that you don't have to clean your kitchen from red stains later.
The first way
Carefully cut the peel from the top, trying not to hurt the grains: make a circular cut and remove the "lid". Then make incisions along the body of the pomegranate, as if cutting it into slices. Open the pomegranate and remove the grains with your fingers. If you want a spectacular serving, then do not take out the grains, but simply remove the white septa, open the "petals" to the end and serve the fruit in the form of buds.
Second method
This method is called the "percussion method", because you will have to give the naughty fruit a good "smack".
Cut the pomegranate in half. Take one half with the peel up and holding the fruit over a bowl, knock on it with a spoon or spatula until all the grains are at the bottom of the bowl. The lower your hand is with the pomegranate, the less likely you are to get a splash of juice all over the place.
Third method
This method involves the use of water. True, it will take a little more time than the previous two.
So, you need to remove the top of the pomegranate and make incisions in it as in the first method. In a deep bowl, pour water, put the fruit there and break it into several pieces. Break the pomegranate under water into grains, and then do one of these procedures:
- take out from the water the pieces of septum and peel that got there, and then strain the liquid;
- pass the contents of the bowl through a colander, and then remove the debris.
