Homemade herring caviar in 5 minutes: an alternative to spreads and pate

Homemade herring caviar is a very simple alternative to spreads and pate. Traditionally, this caviar is prepared with carrots, melted cheese, and butter for extra tenderness and flavor. The herring appetizer is very budget-friendly and quick to prepare.

Popular Ukrainian chef Serhiy Pokanevych (sergeypokanevich) shared a recipe for herring caviar on his Instagram page.

Ingredients:

  • lightly salted herring - 1 pc.
  • carrots - 2 pcs.
  • butter - 50 g
  • processed cheese - 90 g

Method of preparation:

1. Boil the carrots in advance, peel and grate or grind through a meat grinder.

2. Add to the carrots processed cheese.

3. Twist and add the butter and herring fillet to the mass. Mix until smooth.

4. The finished caviar can be spread on bread, croutons and made into sandwiches.
