Hearty and simple casseroles from the USSR: how to cook your favorite dishes
In the USSR, housewives used to cook very hearty meals that could easily feed the whole family. And it had to be not just rich and tasty but also made from affordable products. That's why they often made a variety of casseroles. The most popular were potato, carrot, and cabbage casseroles.

Ingredients:
- medium potatoes - 10-12 pcs.
- eggs - 4 pcs
- garlic - 4 cloves
- sour cream or mayonnaise - 7-8 tbsp
- hard cheese - 200 g
- dried herbs - 1-2 tbsp
- salt, and pepper to taste
Method of preparation:
1. Grate the cheese on a fine grater and divide it into 2 parts.
2. Add 2 eggs and dried herbs to one part and mix. This mixture will be used to grease the dish on top.
3. In the other - 2 eggs, garlic, sour cream.
4. Grate the potatoes on a coarse grater, and add salt and pepper.
5. Put the casserole in a baking dish, and cover with the egg and cheese mixture.
6. Place in the oven at 180 degrees for 40 minutes.

Ingredients:
- fresh carrots - 150 g
- butter or table margarine - 10 g
- milk - 30 g
- semolina - 10 g
- eggs - 20 g
- cottage cheese - 76 g
- sugar - 10 g
- breadcrumbs - 5 g
- sour cream - 5 g
Method of preparation:
1. Cut the carrots into thin strips or grate on a coarse grater.
2. Simmer with fat in milk until tender.
3. Pour in a thin stream of semolina, stir well, and cook until tender.
4. Cool the resulting mass, and mix with cottage cheese, eggs, and sugar.
5. Put the mixture on a greased and breadcrumbs-sprinkled baking sheet.
6. Smooth the surface, brush with sour cream, and make a pattern with a spoon.
7. Bake at 180-200 degrees for 20-30 minutes.
8. Serve with sour cream.

Ingredients:
- cabbage - 500 g
- minced meat - 200 g
- chicken eggs - 2 pcs
- sour cream - 5-6 tbsp.
- onion - 1 pc
- carrots - 1 pc
- herbs, spices - to taste
- hard cheese - 40-50 g
Method of preparation:
1. Chop the cabbage and cover with boiling water for 10-15 minutes.
2. Fry the minced meat, onions, and carrots in vegetable oil for 5 minutes.
3. Drain the water, add the minced meat, herbs, salt, and spices, and mix thoroughly.
4. Put in a baking dish.
5. Prepare the filling: mix the eggs with sour cream, add the cheese, and combine everything thoroughly.
6. Pour over the casserole and put in the oven for 40-50 minutes at 180 degrees.
