Grapes are not good for everyone: who should give them up, says nutritionist Natalia Samoilenko. Exclusive
Nutritionist Natalia Samoilenko talks about the benefits and harms of grapes. She also told us how to combine grapes with other foods and who should limit their consumption.
In an exclusive commentary for OBOZREVATEL, the expert said that despite its benefits, grapes can be harmful if consumed improperly.
The benefits of grapes
The expert said that grapes in themselves are extremely useful. Especially for those people who suffer from cardiovascular diseases. In addition, due to its high antioxidant content, it helps to support the pulmonary system. By the way, relatively recently, there were even some sanatoriums where tuberculosis and other diseases related to the respiratory system were treated with the help of grapes.
Negative qualities of grapes
Given the full range of beneficial properties, grapes have, so to speak, their drawbacks. First of all, it has a high sugar content. Therefore, people who are overweight or have diabetes should be especially careful about eating grapes.
The same applies to people who have problems with the digestive system. Namely, irritable bowel syndrome. The nutritionist advises such people to follow a special FOODMAP diet.
What to combine grapes with
In principle, grapes can be eaten with other fruits. However, it is the kind of berry that likes to be on its own. Therefore, it is not recommended to mix the berry to avoid adverse reactions such as bloating or diarrhea. It is best to eat it as a dessert or after a main meal.
The only caveat is that grapes should not be eaten at night before bed.
