For pasta and pizza: how to prepare successful tomato sauce for winter
What could be more versatile than tomato sauce? It complements the usual pasta and homemade pizza especially well. And the best part is that only tomatoes, spicy onions and garlic, as well as some spices are used for cooking. The tomato sauce has a balanced flavor and is well stored.
Food blogger Tetiana (grenache_rose) shared a recipe for a delicious tomato sauce that perfectly complements pizza and pasta on her Instagram page.
Ingredients:
- tomatoes - 2.5 kg
- onions - 2 pcs
- garlic - 7-8 cloves
- sugar - 3 tbsp
- salt - 1.5-2 tbsp
- vegetable oil - 30 ml
- vinegar 9% - 30 ml
- spices - fresh basil, oregano, ground black pepper, coriander or a mixture of spices like Italian herbs, especially delicious with dried lavender
Method of preparation:
1. First, cut the onion into cubes and fry until transparent.
2. Wash the tomatoes, make cuts crosswise, and pour boiling water over them. After 5-7 minutes, remove the skin and chop roughly. Put the tomatoes in a saucepan together with the onion and simmer for 20-25 minutes over low heat.
3. Add whole basil leaves. Beat the mass with a blender and continue cooking.
4. Add chopped garlic, spices, sugar and salt. Cook for another 10 minutes over low heat.
5. Add vinegar. Stir to combine.
6. Pour the hot sauce into sterile jars and seal them tightly. Turn upside down, cover with something warm and leave to cool completely.
