Homemade sweet braided cake with cottage cheese and nuts is the perfect pastry for tea on a cold autumn evening. This dish can be served at a festive table or just to please the whole family with a delicious treat. This is a great alternative to store-bought buns, which can be stale or with a minimal amount of filling. It is very easy to prepare and does not take much time.

The idea of a delicious cheese braid with nuts was shared by the famous Ukrainian confectioner Liza Hlinska on her Instagram page.

Curd wicker with nuts:

Ingredients for the curd dough:

  • cottage cheese (fat content 5%) - 300 g
  • flour - 200 g
  • butter (cold) - 200 g
  • baking powder - 8 g
  • salt - a pinch
Preparing the dough

Ingredients for the nut filling:

  • walnuts - 100 g
  • cane sugar or white sugar - 50 g
  • cinnamon - 5 g
  • butter - 30 g
  • black rum - 30 ml

Method of preparation:

1. Grind the cottage cheese through a sieve

2. Pour the flour on a baking sheet, grate the butter into it, mix. Add baking powder and salt.

3. When crumbs form, add the grated cottage cheese and knead the dough.

4. Wrap in cling film and leave in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours.

5. Make the nut filling: combine all the ingredients, grind with an immersion blender until smooth.

6. Take the tito out of the refrigerator, sprinkle the surface with flour and roll out a layer 5-4 mm thick, 45/35 cm.

7. Spread the filling evenly with a spoon or silicone spatula.

8. Wrap the roll, and then, stepping back from the edges 2-3 cm, cut lengthwise and form a braid.

Dough ingredients

9. Put the braid on a baking sheet with parchment and place in a preheated oven to 180 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

10. Check the readiness with a wooden skewer.

11. Take out, cool completely, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
