Dried cherries at home: basic rules for preparation and cooking
It turns out that cherries can be used not only for freezing, making jam, or preparing various drinks. The berries can be tastily dried and it is very easy to do at home. Candied cherries can be eaten instead of sweets for tea or coffee, and can also be used in a variety of baked goods.
Food blogger Natalia Vasylenko shared a recipe for dried cherries on her YouTube channel (scroll to the bottom of the page to watch the video).
Ingredients:
- cherries - 3 kg
- sugar - 1.5 kg
- water - 600 ml
Method of preparation:
1. Wash the cherries and pit them.
2. Pour 1 kg of sugar over the cherries and leave them for about 5 hours, stirring occasionally.
3. Use a colander to strain the juice from the cherries. Leave the cherries in the colander for about 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
4. At this stage you need to cook the syrup. To do this, pour 540 g of sugar with 600 ml of water. Put on the fire and bring to a boil.
5. Add the cherries. Cook for 5-7 minutes. Let cool to 50 degrees.
6. Use a colander to strain the juice from the cherries again. Leave the cherries in the colander for about 1 hour.
7. Dry the cherries in the oven. To do this, put the berries on a baking sheet.
8. Dry the cherries at a temperature of 45 degrees for about 3 hours.
