Delicious and budget-friendly herring spread according to an old recipe: without mayonnaise and eggs
Herring spread is the perfect addition to bread and sandwiches. It is important that it can be prepared without harmful mayonnaise, eggs, and processed cheese. This appetizer is budget-friendly, affordable, and the cooking process takes only 10 minutes.
Popular Ukrainian chef Anatoliy Dobrovolskiy (dobrovolskiy_hchef) shared an old recipe for herring spread on his Instagram page. As the chef emphasizes, in ancient times, the ingredients for such a spread were chopped with a knife, but you can use a blender.
Ingredients:
- herring fillet - 1 pc
- butter - 350 g
- salt, pepper
- milk - 100 ml
- strong mustard - 1\2 tbsp
- hard cheese - 150 g
- dry baguette / loaf several pieces
- favorite bread and green onions (for serving)
Method of preparation:
1. Pour milk over a dry baguette for a few minutes.
2. In a blender bowl put the fish fillet, softened butter, mustard and pepper.
3. Grate the hard cheese and put in a blender. Put the baguette/loaf in at the same time.
4. Whisk everything until smooth, making sure to leave some pieces of herring.
5. Spread the spread on bread, sprinkling with green onions.
