Cherry placek: all the secrets of making a delicious cream

You can make a placek for the holidays or just to please your family. It's not a difficult dessert to make, and it's made from readily available ingredients. Therefore, it is important to have a proven recipe for this dessert.

Food blogger Alex Mil shared this recipe. On Instagram, he explained how to make a cherry placek and make a really delicious cream for it.

Ingredients for the dough for a 33x22cm mold

  • Poppy seeds - 400 gr
  • Sugar - 140 gr
  • Eggs - 4 pcs
  • Starch - 50 gr
  • Butter - 50 gr
  • Flour - 150 g
  • Baking powder - 1 pack.

Ingredients for sponge cake

  • Eggs - 5 pcs
  • Sugar - 120 gr
  • Flour - 70 g
  • Baking powder - 1 tsp.
  • Cocoa - 10 g

Ingredients for the cream

  • Cherry juice - ½ liter
  • Sugar - to taste
  • Starch - 40 gr
  • Butter - 300 g

Additional ingredients

  • Cherries in juice - 200 g
  • Cherry jelly - 2 pcs.
  • Boiling water - 400 ml

Method of preparation

1.Pour water over the dry ground poppy seeds and boil until the liquid disappears. The poppy seeds should become dry again. Cover and leave to cool.

2. Add melted butter and chopped nuts. Mix well.

3. Beat eggs with sugar with a mixer until fluffy, add starch and mix at low speed.

4. Pour the batter into the poppy seeds, add the flour mixed with baking powder.

5. Pour into a parchment-lined baking dish, smooth and bake at 170 degrees for 40 minutes and let cool.

6. Prepare the sponge cake. Beat the whites until foamy, add sugar and beat until peaks.

7. Add the yolks and beat on low speed for 1 minute. Add the flour and baking powder and mix for another 1 minute.

8. Pour 2/3 of the batter into the baking dish.

9. Add cocoa to the remaining dough, mix and pour over the light dough. Bake at 170C for 30 minutes and let cool completely.

10. Add the starch to the cherry juice and cook stirring until thickened. Let it cool down. Mix with soft butter in a blender until creamy. To get a rich color, you can add a few drops of food coloring.

11. Pour boiling water over the jelly according to the instructions and leave until a liquid jelly forms.

12. Spread the poppy seed layer with cream and add lots of cherries.

13. Spread the cream over the sponge cake and the poppy seed layer.

14. Spread the cream on the sides, making a small border at the top.

15. Put the cherries in, pour over the slightly frozen jelly, and let it freeze completely.
