Borscht with apples: an original recipe for the national Ukrainian dish
Borsch is a national symbol of Ukraine. Every Ukrainian knows how to cook this dish despite the fact that there are many recipes for borsch as each region of Ukraine has its own. You can often find even the most unlikely combinations of products in this dish, such as herring, crucian carp, sweet smoked pears and mint.
Culinary expert Yevhen Klopotenko shared a recipe for a delicious and very original borsch with apples and pork ribs on his website.
Ingredients:
- pork ribs - 400 g
- sweet and sour apples - 3-4 pcs.
- ready borscht dressing
- water - 3 liters
- onion - 1 pc.
- potatoes - 3-4 pcs.
- cabbage - 1/4 pc.
- carrots - 2 pcs.
- horseradish - 1 tbsp.
- sour cream - 100 g
- garlic - 3 cloves.
- salt, pepper - to taste
Method of preparation:
1. Wash and peel all the vegetables. Set one carrot aside and cut the other one lengthwise and in half.
2. Cut the onion into two pieces. Put the vegetables in a baking dish along with 400 g of pork ribs and season with a little salt.
3. Cook in a preheated to 180 degrees oven for 30 minutes.
4. Dice the apples, chop the cabbage and grate the carrots.
5. Peel and dice the potatoes as well.
6. Take the baked vegetables and meat out of the oven and cut the ribs into portions.
7. For the broth, pour 3 liters of water into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the baked vegetables and ribs. Add garlic and cook over medium heat for 20 minutes.
8. Remove the baked vegetables from the broth and add the potatoes, carrots and cabbage. After 5 minutes, add the sliced apples, after another 5 minutes, add the prepared dressing and horseradish. Cook for another 5 minutes.
Add sour cream and herbs before serving.
