A resident of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, Vasyl Fitsak, found a 100-year-old beer recipe in the archives of the Kalush Voice newspaper.
"In the 1919 newspaper "The Kalush Voice" there is a recipe for homemade beer. So, it's worth a try," Vasyl captioned the photo he posted on his Facebook page.
The recipe suggests taking 250 grams of barley burnt like coffee (apparently roasted) with 200 grams of sugar, a handful of hops, and 8 liters of water. Cook everything together for an hour, then let it cool.
Dissolve 50 grams of yeast in cold water and pour it into the cooled barley broth. Mix everything well, close the lid and leave it for 6-7 hours.
After that, strain the broth, pour it into clean bottles and seal them well.
