The popular British chef and restaurateur Jamie Oliver has compiled his list of 14 foods that promote longevity while traveling the world. Moreover, the secret of a long life was not in "superfoods" such as goji berries, but in the most ordinary food and simple ways of cooking it.

The TV presenter told about his discoveries in his show Jamie's Super Foods, where Oliver travels to countries with the largest number of long-lived people to get acquainted with their diet, lifestyle, and eating habits. For this purpose, he visited Costa Rica, Japan, and the Greek island of Ikaria.

At the end of his trip, the chef compiled the following list for longevity:

  1. Eggs - a source of protein, vitamins A, D, B2, and B12, folic acid, and iodine;
  2. Goat's milk - contains calcium, protein, and vitamin D;
  3. Fish - a source of omega-3 fatty acids;
  4. Sweet potatoes (yams) - rich in vitamins A, B5 and B6;
  5. Wild greens and herbs - saturate the body with magnesium and folic acid;
  6. Walnuts - a source of magnesium, copper, and folic acid;
  7. Tofu - contains 8 important amino acids, iron, and calcium;
  8. Black beans - rich in potassium, iron, folic acid and magnesium;

According to Oliver, representatives of long-lived cultures share common eating habits. For example, they usually have a hearty breakfast and a light dinner. In addition, the chef advised people who want to live longer to eat meat twice a week and consume more calories in the morning.

As a reminder, scientists from Israel and the United States have found a way to extend the life of mice by 23% and said it could be applied to humans. In particular, they discovered a protein whose increased levels prolonged the life of rodents and even strengthened their resistance to cancer. Thus, with age, such a supply decreases, while increasing its level has a positive effect on life expectancy, youth, and resistance to cancer in mice.

Earlier, a 122-year-old Filipina revealed the secret of longevity. In particular, she believes that she has lived so many years thanks to fresh vegetables that she has been eating all her life. The woman said that she loves zucchini, eggplant, cucumber, root vegetables, and honey.
