Did you know that some foods can be stored for almost a lifetime? And that their quality does not deteriorate over time. If you do, good for you. If not, this article is for you.

The FoodOboz editorial team tells you about products that can be stored in your kitchen for a very long time.

Honey. Scientists say that honey is the only product in the world that has no expiration date. They attribute this to its low water content and very high concentration of carbohydrates (glucose, fructose, and sucrose), which makes honey an unfavorable environment for the development of microorganisms. By the way, archaeologists also confirm the findings of scientists: in 2015, in Egypt, honey that was more than 3,000 years old was found in a tomb. It was edible.

Salt. Even though salt tends to absorb moisture and flavors, its shelf life is unlimited. The main thing is to store it in the right conditions. That is, in a dark, dry, and cool place. To protect against moisture, the product can be poured into ceramic or plastic containers with tight lids. An important point: we are talking only about ordinary salt. Iodized salt has a shelf life of only one year.

Sugar. The same principle applies here as with salt: store in a dark, dry, and cool place in a ceramic, glass, or plastic container with a tight lid.

Flour. When choosing a place to store, keep in mind that flour does not like the sun, dampness, or temperature changes. In addition, flour does not like to be near odorous foods. The ideal conditions for storing the product are airtight containers with tight lids to prevent various bugs from getting into the flour. For the same purpose, you can put a bay leaf in the container with flour: insects do not like this smell.

Rice. If stored properly, rice does not lose its properties for more than 30 (!) years. The ideal conditions for rice (as well as for many other cereals) are low temperature. However, this only applies to white rice. Brown rice can be stored for up to 1.5 years.

Soda. You can store soda for life, and it does not lose its properties. By the way, it is used not only in cooking, as a baking powder and food additive, but also in the household. Soda can replace toothpaste and laundry detergent, is suitable for cleaning various surfaces and preparing solutions for gargling and nasal rinses to relieve colds.

Pasta. All types of pasta without food additives can be stored for at least 5-10 years. The ideal conditions for them are a dry and dark place. Moreover, the drier the room, the longer the pasta will be stored.

Beans. All types of legumes can be stored for more than a decade. However, they must be kept dry in airtight containers in a cool, dark place.

Alcohol. But not all of it. Wine, whiskey, rum, and liquor can be stored for a long time, as the older they get, the deeper their flavor. But vodka is not recommended to be stored for a long time, the period of sale and consumption depends on the manufacturer and the quality of the alcohol. In addition, it is strictly forbidden to store beer beyond the specified expiration date: it is very easy to get poisoned with such a product.

Vinegar. The shelf life of all types of vinegar can last forever. The high concentration of acids in this product prevents the appearance of harmful microflora and prevents the growth of bacteria.

Broth cubes. Since bouillon cubes contain a very large amount of salt (the best-known preservative), this product can "live" in your kitchen for about 10 years. Chicken or beef-flavored food additives, of course, are no substitute for real meat products. But they will help you make a tasty and flavorful broth when you don't have meat at hand.
