Preparing for summer: how to get rid of flies in the house quickly
With the arrival of warmth, all kinds of insects wake up and can cause a lot of trouble. One of the most common problems in late spring and summer is flies.
Not only are these insects annoying, but they can also carry infectious diseases. Luckily, Woman and Home has shared effective life hacks that will help you get rid of them.
Flies are most attracted to odors and light. So, if you cook a lot or open windows frequently, you've probably encountered these insects more than once.
You don't have to use pesticides or insecticides to forget about this problem forever. There are much better, completely harmless and environmentally friendly ways to get rid of these pests.
Apple cider vinegar
Flies are known for their love of sweets. It is for this reason that they are attracted to apple cider vinegar.
Simply pour it into a jar or glass, cover it with cling film, and make a small hole in it so that the insects can fly in but cannot get out.
After that, you can simply take the container outside and remove the film to free the fly.
Water and coins
This method is effective in scaring flies away from the house. All you need to do is pour water into a transparent bag (preferably use bags with clasps), add a few coins, tie it up, and hang it in front of the door or windows.
It's no secret that these insects have special eyesight, so a bag of water will seem like a whole pond to them. The coins in the middle create a color prism through the reflection of water, which improves the effectiveness of the life hack.
Plants
Mint and basil have a specific odor that repels flies. That is, their presence acts as a simple repellent.
To scare away insects, simply place these plants in pots or vases near windows. You can also use marigolds, lavender, bay leaves, or catnip.
Essential oils
Spritz the room with essential oils such as lemongrass, peppermint, or use an essential oil diffuser to instantly repel flies.
You can also light aromatherapy candles with essential oils, or simply dampen a cloth with the scented liquid and hang it near a window or door.
Baking soda
To keep your trash can from emitting an odor that attracts flies, you should keep it clean. You can also sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom of the trash can to keep it fresh.
Citronella candles
Citronella-scented products are so famous for their ability to repel insects. Therefore, if you put, for example, scented candles near every window and forget about flies in your home.
