There will always be a pleasant aroma at home: a life hack with a light bulb will help

Life hack with a light bulb

We all like a pleasant scent in our homes. It can create a cozy atmosphere, cheer us up, or simply make our stay at home more comfortable.

There are many ways to scent a room, but one of the easiest and most affordable is to use an ordinary light bulb. This life hack was shared with House Digest.

Usually, when people want to fill their homes with a pleasant smell, they use candles, fragrances, and other classic methods. But there is a much cheaper and more practical way.

Essential oils

In order to fill your home with a pleasant aroma, you will need:

  • A light bulb of 40 watts or less;
  • A napkin or cotton pad;
  • Essential oil.

While the light bulb is off and cold to the touch, put a few drops of essential oil on a paper towel or cotton ball and wipe the surface of the bulb. Let it dry completely and turn on the light.

The heat from the bulb will open the scent and spread it throughout the room.

This life hack is so simple and effective that it is often used to create a good first impression of a home and sell real estate more profitably.

For example, interior designer Terry Cumming said that when she sold her house, she used a few drops of lemon essential oil. Cumming describes the scent as "not too strong," which simply creates an overall sense of cleanliness.

Flavors

In general, bright citrus scents are good for bathrooms, cozy cinnamon for the kitchen and living room, and soothing lavender for bedrooms.

In addition, you can use vanilla extract to give your home a fresh bakery scent.

However, be careful about what type of bulbs you use. Some high-powered light bulbs can be flammable for this life hack, as they reach temperatures higher than the average ignition temperature of essential oils.
