Sowing calendar for May 2024: what days to choose for work in the vegetable garden
May is a great time to work in the garden. The ground has warmed up enough, the risk of frost is minimal, and the days are getting longer.
To get a bountiful harvest, it is important to plan your work on the land properly. Therefore, OBOZ.UA has prepared a sowing calendar to help you with this.
The lunar sowing calendar is based on long-term observations of the influence of the Moon on the growth and development of plants. It is believed that different phases of the Moon have different effects on sowing and other gardening activities.
Favorable days for gardening
The best days for gardening in May are: 3-4, 9-13, 17-22, 25-27, and 30-31.
May 3 and 4 are the best days for planting late varieties of potatoes, as well as carrots, radishes, and beets. You can also plant legumes.
May 9-13 are good days for planting and sowing eggplant, peppers, and cucumbers. You can also transplant strawberry and wild strawberry bushes and plant flowers. In addition, it is worth planting fruit trees and berry bushes on these days.
On May 17-22, you can plant and sow all the vegetable crops you have left.
On May 25-27, pay special attention to watering your plants, especially if the month was dry. You can also start the first harvest.
May 30-31 are favorable days to devote time to fertilizing and grafting plants for further reproduction. At the end of May, all seedlings should be in their permanent place in the garden.
Neutral days for working in the garden
On these days, you can carry out plant care work. You can, for example, clean up the area, fertilize the plants, weed, germinate seeds, carry out repair work, etc.
Unfavorable days for gardening
It is not recommended to sow seeds and plant seedlings on these days: 5-6, 8, 15, 23-24, and 28.
However, on May 5-6, you can do some plowing, loosening of the soil, and weeding if necessary. On May 8, you can apply seasonal fertilizers or mow the lawn. On May 23-24, it will not be great if you prune garden crops or carry out preventive treatment.
However, on May 15 and 28, it is better not to do anything in the garden at all.
