Rich harvest will surprise all your neighbors: what to soak onions in before planting
It's a busy time for gardeners. It's time to clean up the plots, dig up the soil, and apply useful fertilizers. It would seem that there is nothing complicated about planting onions: it is a fairly unpretentious crop that will grow even under less than favorable conditions.

Why you need to soak onions
For the procedure, you just need to prepare a solution of baking soda. Soda soaking has a pronounced antifungal and antiseptic effect.
There are several advantages of soaking:
- improving the quality of planting material;
- disinfection;
- increased resistance to disease.
It is recommended to process onions in this way in spring and fall.
Soda soaking additionally enriches the onions with minerals. Thus, they become resistant and grow well even in poor soil.
How to soak onions
- Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to 1 liter of clean water.
- Pre-heat the planting material at a temperature of +35 to +40 °C.
- The next step is to soak. The maximum temperature of the solution should be from + 55 °С to + 60 °С, and the minimum temperature should not be lower than + 45 °С. Before immersing, you can peel the onions a little but not completely. Otherwise, they may not sprout.
- The onions should stay in the solution for at least 30 minutes. Cover the container to keep the temperature higher.
You can also treat the onions directly in the garden. Note that soda reduces the acidity of the soil, which is good for crop growth.
Experts say that soda treatment will help protect the garden from pathogens and weeds. You just need to sprinkle the planting areas with powder or water them with a solution of soda at the rate of 100 g per 1 liter of water, loosen the soil and plant onions.
