Cucumbers are a fairly unpretentious crop, so growing them in the garden is usually easy. However, it often happens that despite all your efforts, the crop grows frail and small. In this case, the reason may be improper neighborhood and non-compliance with crop rotation rules.

Where to plant cucumbers

Cucumbers are heat-loving crops that require sufficient light and moisture for quality growth and development.

The place in the garden should be open, but protected from drafts. Do not plant the plants in the shade or under trees, because you will not get a generous harvest due to lack of light. Plants simply will not receive enough energy for the photosynthesis process, which will affect fertility.

Do not plant seedlings in beds with high soil moisture or standing water. Cucumbers need regular watering, but excess moisture leads to root rot and the development of fungal diseases. Choose a place with good drainage and take care of quality watering.

Rules of good neighborliness

Experts do not advise planting cucumbers and tomatoes next to each other - such a neighborhood will cause poor fruiting. Tomatoes do not like high humidity and spoil from its excess, while cucumbers, on the contrary, need abundant watering. In addition, cucumber leaves emit a lot of moisture, which negatively affects tomatoes.

Aromatic herbs, such as basil, cilantro, or oregano, can have a negative impact on the growth of cucumber shoots and can even affect the taste of the fruit.

Potatoes will also be an undesirable neighbor, as these crops often suffer from late blight and can infect each other.

And garlic can even slow down the growth of cucumbers, which is why it is advised to plant it no closer than 50 cm from the bed with green fruits.
