Cockroaches can get into your home through the smallest gap. Pests are attracted to homes, especially kitchens, by several factors, such as humidity, heat, or food debris. Cockroaches carry pathogens of serious infectious diseases and, moving through sewer pipes, bring bacteria into the house.

Salmonellosis, dysentery, meningitis, dermatitis, allergic reactions – this is an incomplete list of diseases that these pests can bring with them. Experts told us about the most effective life hack that will help get rid of cockroaches for a long time.

Why boric acid is effective

Boric acid is a chemical compound that can be found in various fruits and plants. Thanks to its natural components, such as boron, oxygen, and hydrogen, the acid will help fight cockroaches. When cockroaches come into contact with an area treated with boric acid, they naturally consume the substance, which destroys their digestive and nervous systems.

After the cockroach dies, other pests eat the corpse and, as a result, also die from boric acid ingestion.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Clean the infested area. Depending on where the cockroaches have decided to set up their hiding place, remove all pots, dishes, and packaged food. Then wipe down countertops and surrounding surfaces with water and detergent.
  2. After cleaning the affected area, sprinkle boric acid powder in the kitchen, behind the refrigerator, and in the corners of the floor. Since cockroaches are nocturnal, it's best to treat your home with boric acid before going to bed.
  3. In the morning, you will most likely be faced with a cockroach cemetery. Vacuum up any remaining boric acid and dead cockroaches. Be careful: even dead pests can cause allergies, so it's best not to come into direct contact with cockroaches. Use a damp cloth to clean up any boric acid residue.

Other ways to use boric acid in the home

Boric acid can be a great tool for cleaning laundry affected by stains, mold, mildew, and odors – just add a tablespoon of boric acid to the washing machine before loading the laundry.

In addition, boric acid can be used to clean the kitchen, bathroom, and any other areas where fungal spores have begun to grow.

The tool will also help when cleaning the refrigerator. After emptying the refrigerator, sprinkle small doses of boric acid on the shelves, drawers, and compartments. After 10-15 minutes, remove the powder with a paper towel or soft cloth. In addition to cleaning the affected areas, boric acid will also remove any unpleasant odors and naturally deodorize surfaces.
