How to increase the harvest of potatoes: what to put in the hole

Potatoes have become one of the most popular crops in Ukraine due to their versatility. Therefore, it is not surprising that every gardener dreams of a rich and abundant harvest.

Many secrets help to grow large and healthy tubers, such as the right fertilizer. OBOZ.UA will tell you what you need to fertilize the soil with to increase the potato harvest.

When growing potatoes, you need to follow a few simple rules. First, the planting material must be processed before planting.

Second, you should make a stimulating cut on the tubers before the eyes begin to sprout.

Third, you need to water and fertilize the crop regularly.

Potatoes need nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers. There are several ways to prepare an effective mixture.

For the first fertilizer option, mix 5 grams of boric acid and 50 ml of hydrogen peroxide in a glass of boiling water. Then dissolve the resulting mixture in a bucket of water and add a pinch of potassium permanganate. You need to apply 1 cup of fertilizer per potato bush.

You can also mix 15 cups of humus and 10 teaspoons of urea and treat about 10 meters of the garden with the mixture.

For another fertilizer option, you will need to mix 30 tablespoons of wood ash and 10 teaspoons of potassium sulfate. The resulting fertilizer will be enough for 10 meters of beds.

To increase the yield, you can also fertilize the potatoes immediately after planting by putting the fertilizer directly into the hole. This is not only effective but also economical.

What to put in the hole when planting potatoes

Poultry manure

Before fertilizing a potato planting site with poultry manure, 700 grams of the substance must be diluted in 10 liters of water and let the solution brew for 3 days. One liter of fertilizer should be used per hole.

Wood ash

Pour 100-200 grams of ash into each hole, then pour water on the ground and put a potato in it.

Grass

Grass clippings contain a lot of nutrients for potatoes. To prepare the fertilizer, you need to collect grass and even weeds with roots, fill a barrel with it by 2\3, add 30 grams of urea, and water, cover it with foil, and let it brew for 2 weeks. You will need a liter of infusion for one hole.
