How to clean the whole house in one day: an effective method

Even a spacious house can be cleaned in a day. Source: Created with the help of AI

Spring is a time for a big cleaning after a long and dark winter. But not everyone is happy about the prospect of spending several days scrubbing dirt from every corner. Many of us would like to get rid of these duties as quickly as possible, preferably in one day.

And cleanliness experts say that this desire is not utopian at all, even if you are the owner of a fairly large house. OBOZ.UA tells you about a method that will help you clean everything in just one day. So, instead of looking for gaps in your schedule for disparate tasks, set aside a day and prepare everything you need to clean up. Wake up at least at 8 a.m. to have time to eat breakfast and be ready to start work. Then follow the schedule below.

9:00 – bathroom and toilet

To make it easier for you to clean the bathroom, take out all the things and decor that are stored there – free up the workspace for yourself as much as possible. Next, spray the bathtub, sink, and toilet with a foaming agent. While the foam is bubbling and the cleaner is working, collect the debris from the floor and wash it, wipe the cabinets and drawers, and wash the mirrors. Next, wipe off the foam, clean, and rinse the plumbing. And finally, dust the lamps. Return all items to their places.

10:00 – living room

Start cleaning the living room by dusting all the most contaminated areas – on the top shelves and the cabinets. Then polish the furniture and vacuum the chairs and sofas. If you have a steam cleaner, use it on the upholstery and cushions. Don't forget to move the sofa away and vacuum thoroughly underneath it.

The next step is to wash the windows, mirrors, and showcases in the furniture, dust all the lights, and replace any burnt-out bulbs. Finally, take care of the floor by vacuuming and mopping it with a damp mop.

11:00 – kitchen

The kitchen can be called the heart of any home, so it will take more time to put it in order – set aside not one hour, but two. Just like in the bathroom, start by clearing out the cabinets, drawers, and pantry shelves. Put everything on the countertop or move it somewhere else. Start by dusting and washing the shelves. Work from top to bottom.

Once you've cleaned out your cabinets, give your countertops and stovetops the attention they need. Use a degreaser to clean the fronts of the refrigerator and other appliances, and treat the stove, oven, and microwave with a degreaser. Finally, take care of the sink and floor and put everything back in its place.

13:00 – bedrooms

Depending on how many bedrooms you have, this stage may take less or more time, but on average, it will also take two hours. Following the familiar algorithm, start by removing dust on high surfaces and in hard-to-reach places. Gradually work your way down. Then thoroughly vacuum the entire room, moving all the furniture as far as possible. Since you spend most of your time in the bedroom, it is advisable to use a device with a HEPA filter to remove not only dirt but also allergens.

Replace the bedding and all bedspreads. Thoroughly vacuum or steam clean the mattress. Next, wash the floor thoroughly. Finally, take care of the windows and mirrors and clean the light fixtures.

15:00 – corridors, doors and stairs

Common areas are usually the dirtiest in the house. Therefore, they need special attention. Dust all light fixtures and replace light bulbs if necessary before you start dusting here. Next, go from top to bottom with a dust cloth, wipe down the walls and baseboards, and vacuum the rugs thoroughly.

Be sure to take care of hot spots such as doorknobs, light switches, stair railings, etc. – they need to be disinfected. Finally, wash the floor.

16:00 – Finishing touches

Once you've finished cleaning all the rooms, walk through them again to make sure you haven't forgotten anything. Take a closer look at the windows and mirrors to see if there are any stains on them, brush off any dust from the shelves, and make sure everything is in its place.
