Countertops made of natural stone, especially marble, look stunning in the interior, but they also pose some difficulties when cleaning. They are sensitive to many cleaning agents, do not like acids, and suffer from abrasives. Such substances can corrode the surface of the marble, make it duller, or discolor it.

Does this mean that it is better to refuse to use the material for the manufacture of countertops and other surfaces? Of course not. However, you will have to pay more attention to the choice of cleaning products. OBOZ.UA found out how best to clean marble so that it retains its appearance for a long time.

First of all, keep in mind that vinegar, which is popular among lovers of natural cleaning, is not suitable for marble in any case. Acetic acid can severely damage such a surface. You will also have to give up soda, as it is abrasive, and ammonia.

Medical alcohol is a good choice for cleaning marble. It will not only dissolve any dirt on its surface but also disinfect it well. To make a scented cleaner, pour a quarter cup of rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle, dilute it with two cups of water, and add 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil. Screw the spray bottle on and shake the contents thoroughly. The product is ready.

Start cleaning by brushing off all small dry debris – crumbs, dust, etc. – from the countertop with a cloth. Then spray it with an alcohol-based cleaner so that it covers the entire surface well. Leave the product on for 5 minutes – during this time, it will kill almost all bacteria, viruses, and fungi on the surface. Finally, wipe off the remaining stains with a dry cloth. A microfiber cloth is best.

It is so easy to clean a marble countertop with alcohol. But still, do not forget about some precautions. Do not clean marble with pure alcohol – always dilute it with water. Avoid using hard sponges and brushes. They will scratch your marble. Always test the cleaner you make on an inconspicuous area before applying it to the entire surface. Although this method is considered safe for marble, not all stones are the same, and your slab may be vulnerable. And, of course, never mix different cleaning products. This can lead to the formation of hazardous substances that cause burns to the skin and mucous membranes or cause poisoning.
