Scale is a rather unpleasant household problem, especially familiar to those who live in regions with hard water. It collects on all objects and appliances that come into contact with tap water, and you have to remove it with vinegar, which smells quite unpleasant.

But is there any way to get rid of limescale without the smell of vinegar in your home? Cleaning experts say yes. OBOZ.UA learned about their life hacks.

To understand how to deal with scale, you need to know what it actually is. Scale is formed from calcium and magnesium salts that are present in water and make it hard. When tap water droplets dry, these salts remain on the surface, forming scale. Appliances that heat water, such as electric kettles, are particularly affected.

Acid is able to destroy the hard structure of these salts. That is why vinegar is so effective against them. It is dissolved in water and then boiled in the kettle to clean it from the inside. However, the vinegar flavor may be felt for several subsequent boils.

For those who don't want to deal with the smell and taste of vinegar in their kettle, you can replace it with another product that doesn't smell at all, but is just as ruthless to lime. And that is citric acid.

To use it, fill the kettle with water to the level where it is limescale. Then add 2 tablespoons of acid to the water for every 0.5 liters of water. The acid will immediately begin to react with the scale and release bubbles.

Next, boil the kettle and leave it closed for 5-10 minutes for the product to work better. Next, rinse the device from the inside - the scale should be completely removed. If not, simply repeat the procedure. This cleaning does not require repeated boiling to remove foreign flavors and aromas. Just a thorough rinse will be enough.
