Where were the stylists? 7 most unfortunate outfits of royals. Photo
Queens and princesses often choose dresses with interesting design solutions for social events. It's all about standing out from the crowd. It can be bright prints, accent colors, or a unique cut. In some cases, their images are fascinating, and in others, they cause bewilderment, like, how could they wear such a thing?
In the OBOZ.UA material, we have prepared a selection of outfits by royals that, in our opinion, are failures. Although they have personal stylists, they are unfortunately not immune to fashion mistakes.
1. Princess Margaret
The Countess of Snowdon and younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, was once a true style icon. Despite her rebellious nature, she adhered to the dress code: she wore elegant outfits in pastel colors that perfectly outlined her figure and visually refreshed her appearance. Nevertheless, one of her outfits can hardly be called successful due to the overabundance of details. In May 1973, Princess Margaret attended the premiere of the film Hitler: The Last 10 Days by Italian screenwriter and director Ennio de Conchini. She wore a 2-row ruffled dress with a floral pattern and black rhinestones. She complemented her look with massive gemstone earrings. All at once!
2. Princess Diana
The first wife of Prince Charles III (now the King of Great Britain), Princess Diana of Wales, often set fashion trends. She was not afraid of bold experiments. Wearing a striped shirt, denim overalls and sneakers instead of a dress? Easy! Instead of a strict suit with a skirt, a coat dress? With pleasure. And even this inspiration of millions had fashion mistakes... So, in November 1987, Lady Dee and her husband visited the Munich Opera in Germany. She wore long gloves and a blue velvet dress with off-the-shoulder and low waist by Catherine Walker. The designers decorated the piece with draped fabric and huge flowers. And even these details were not enough for the princess! She styled the look with blue tights, sapphire earrings and a black choker with precious stones.
3. Princess Catherine
Before her wedding to Prince William, and, accordingly, before receiving the title of "Princess of Wales," Kate Middleton often wore outfits and accessories that could hardly be called successful. These were sequined dresses, cowboy hats, low-rise jeans, short skirts, etc. Later, stylists helped her revise her wardrobe, and her clothes changed to more elegant ones that emphasized Katherine's figure and color type. However, even after that, she often made fashion mistakes. For example, in January 2018, the princess visited the Fotografiska photography museum in Stockholm. She was wearing a pale blue velor dress with a floral pattern by Erdem, which visually distorted her silhouette and emphasized her tired look.
4. Charlotte Casiraghi
The daughter of Princess Caroline, Monegasque journalist Charlotte Casiraghi is another royal who loves too bold fashion experiments. She is rarely seen wearing clothes with a laconic design. This celebrity prefers layering and colorful patterns. For example, in July 2016, Kazirahi attended the Vogue Foundation Gala in a floral dress made of gold and translucent mesh fabric. She complemented her outfit with golden sandals and a bag, as well as a massive necklace that resembled a piece of chain mail.
5. Princess Beatrice
The niece of King Charles III of Great Britain, Princess Beatrice is a true connoisseur of intricately designed clothes. Even if she chooses a laconic outfit for public appearances, she always complements it with a fancy hat. How can you go without it? But such images become unforgettable and help the princess to always be in the center of attention. For example, in May 2008, Beatrice wore a milky jacket, a dress printed with bright butterflies and a headdress with the same scaly wings to the wedding of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly. She completed the look with gold shoes, a green bag with a golden flower and a wide belt with shining decor.
6. Elizabeth II
Former Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain ruled for 70 years and 214 days. During this time, the public watched with interest as the styles and color palette of her outfits changed. Obviously, not all of Her Majesty's fashion experiments were successful. In November 1999, she wore a dress designed by Karl-Ludwig Rese to the Royal Variety Show in Birmingham. The top of the piece was decorated with multicolored diamonds and sequins, and the bottom was a silk fabric with diagonal stripes. Even if we take into account the fact that Elizabeth II liked bright clothes, there were too many accents in this public appearance.
7. Meghan Markle
The wife of British Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, usually demonstrates a sophisticated style of dress - modern, dynamic and spectacular. But there are days when she doesn't guess with the style either. For example, in October 2018, the newly minted royal attended the Invictus Games in Sydney, wearing a burgundy jacket with a basque by Scanlan Theodore and black leggings. First of all, this outfit looked old-fashioned. And secondly, it visually distorted the proportions of the figure and added extra volume to the waist.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote about Kate Middleton's most famous outfits with hidden meanings. For example, her wedding dress had embroidered roses, thistles, daffodils and shamrocks on the sleeves, which are the national emblems of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
