The cut crease technique is a special trend in makeup. The main emphasis is on the crease on the eyelids using dark shades of eyeshadow of different textures to create a light haze effect.

Despite the fact that this year this technique was almost eclipsed by the trends of the 90s, makeup artists say that cut crease can be considered a timeless makeup style that will be appropriate for a party and for everyday makeup. Proper application of eyeshadow will make your eyes look bigger and your gaze more expressive.

What is the cut crease technique?

In fact, the cut crease technique has been around since the days of silent movies. Back then, this way of applying shadows was used to draw attention to the eyes of actresses in black and white films. The style was softer than the modern version, but had the same premise.

Caroline Forrest, a makeup artist at THG Studios, explained that the essence of the makeup is to create a sharp contrast between the eyelid and the area under the eyebrow.

"One of the best advantages of this look is that you can adapt it to your eye shape and change the colors to your liking. The only rule is that the color of the crease should be darker than the color of the eyelid," Forrest explained.

Step by step instructions

Step 1.

Apply primer or concealer to the entire eyelid. The cut crease technique does not work if the shades of the eyeshadow blend together without a sharp transition.

Step 2

Next, create definition in the crease. Sweep the fluffy brush right under the brow bone where the brush naturally blends into the contours. You'll be able to feel the gap between the brow and the eye, which is exactly where you want to apply the darkest shadows.

Step 3

Create a precise line and highlight the eyelid by applying a lighter color all over the eyelid, matching the color of your crease. Cream eyeshadows or even concealer work very well for this step because you can really highlight the contour with these products. Apply the light color all over the eyelid with a flat brush, creating a solid line under where you blend the darker color.

Step 4

If you are using a cream product, makeup artists recommend applying a powder eyeshadow or a setting product on top.

Step 5

Finish your makeup with black eyeliner and mascara.

Recently, a technique called "mascara cocktailing" has been gaining popularity on the Internet. It is the use of several brushes to give eyelashes extra volume, length, and definition.
