How to store cosmetics correctly: a mistake can have unpleasant consequences
We apply cosmetics directly to our skin, and as close as possible to our eyes and lips. That's why it's important that both the products themselves and the tools used to apply them are hygienically clean. Do you know what factors can compromise the hygiene of cosmetics storage?
Makeup experts say it's humidity. In a humid environment, bacteria that get into the product multiply much faster and can infect the skin and mucous membranes. OBOZ.UA asked how to properly store cosmetics so that they do not end up in high humidity, as well as protect them from other risk factors.
Do not keep cosmetics in the bathroom
Bathroom conditions can be very convenient for applying makeup. There is always water at hand if you need to wash something off quickly, there are many options for mirrors and lights that can be installed on bathroom cabinets, and so on. But at the same time, the humidity in the room periodically rises to almost 100% when we take a shower. In addition, wet towels constantly evaporate water into the air.
So it's not a good idea to keep cosmetics in the bathroom. Try setting up your vanity in a drier area or bring your makeup with you every time you need to do your makeup.
Avoid using a makeup bag
It can be very convenient to put all your creams, lipsticks, eyeshadows, and mascaras in a special purse. But a makeup bag is a closed space that is poorly ventilated and can accumulate moisture. Therefore, professional makeup artists do not recommend using it for storing products - only for convenient transportation. Moreover, studies show that inside an average cosmetic bag, you can find a whole zoo of bacteria, including conditionally pathogenic ones, such as E. coli. And how often do you disinfect this case inside, if at all?
It's much better to have a separate shelf or drawer for cosmetics. Air circulation will be much better here. In addition, it will be easier for you to keep such a space clean - wipe it of dust and spilled or spilled products. Once a week, wipe the surface with a mild soap solution and wipe it dry. This will be enough to keep your cosmetics in good condition.
Close the lids
Tightly closing or screwing up jars and tubes is not only important because it prevents your favorite product from drying out prematurely. Another reason is to protect against bacteria, which multiply rapidly in contact with air. Tightly closed packaging restricts air access to the product, and therefore takes care of its hygiene.
