However, the question arises as to how much SPF should be used. Dr. Whitney Bowe, a board-certified dermatologist from New York, answered this question.

Most people are already well aware that sunscreen should be used not only on vacation, but every time you go out. However, not everyone realizes that in order for it to be effective, you need to follow a few rules.

First, you need to reapply the layer of sunscreen regularly, namely every 2 hours. This should also be done after sweating, being in water, or toweling off.

Second, it should be applied not only to the face but also to the neck, ears, legs, etc. That is, on all exposed areas of the body. Dr. Karen Campbell noted that some of the most aggressive skin cancers often occur on the temples, ears, and lips because these are parts of the body that are more often exposed to the sun and that people often forget to protect.

Thirdly, you need to use a sufficient amount of cream because if you apply just a few drops, it will have little effect.

The so-called two-finger rule has long been spreading online. According to this rule, you should first apply two strips of cream on your index and middle fingers, and then spread it all over your face, neck, and ears.

Bowe does not refute this method of application but rather confirms that it is quite versatile and effective. However, she uses two fingers only for the face, and then applies an additional portion of SPF 50 to the ears and neck.

The doctor also noted that mineral sunscreens should be rubbed into the skin thoroughly so that no white tint remains. Then the product will be effective enough.
