Skin care should be an important part of everyone's daily routine. Properly selected methods and products will help to maintain youthfulness and health.

However, in today's messy world, myths and prejudices about beauty and health often arise. Some of them were debunked by Fatima Fahs, MD and certified dermatologist.

Will a facial massage help you rejuvenate?

There are many rumors on the Internet that facial massage can reduce wrinkles, tighten the skin, and highlight the jawline. In fact, very little research has been done on the effectiveness of this method, so it's impossible to make statements about its effectiveness or ineffectiveness with certainty.

However, the dermatologist noted that you may notice an improvement in the condition of the skin after the massage as it helps to cope with swelling and improves blood circulation. But this way, you won't be able to get rid of fat in a targeted manner and radically and permanently change the shape of your face.

As for wrinkles, it is safe to say that the cause of their appearance is facial expressions. That's why Botox is effective in the fight against wrinkles: because it paralyzes muscles and prevents a person from making facial expressions that provoke the appearance of wrinkles. So, we can't say that such a thing as massage can reduce wrinkles on the skin.

Can pores shrink or enlarge due to cosmetics?

All those products that promise to shrink your pores are lies. The size of your pores, like most skin characteristics, is linked to genetics and cannot be changed by the cosmetics you use. However, regular exfoliation and cleansing can have a temporary effect as the pores will not be clogged. Some cosmetic procedures, such as laser or microneedling, can also help.

Does wearing makeup cause acne?

Makeup alone does not cause acne. However, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, your makeup may contain comedogenic ingredients that clog pores and lead to breakouts.

If you're using high-quality cosmetics that are suitable for your skin type but still experience blackheads, it could be the brushes. Make sure that your makeup application tools are clean and that your makeup has not expired.

Do I need to apply sunscreen indoors?

Just because you don't sunbathe on the beach doesn't mean that harmful UV rays don't affect your skin. In addition, the blue light from our phones or laptops contributes to the worsening of hyperpigmentation. Therefore, if you do not spend the whole day in a dark room without natural sunlight, you should apply a cream with SPF.

Can I use facial oils if I have oily skin?

Just because you have oily skin doesn't mean you shouldn't moisturize it, and oils can be a great way to do that. Oil attracts fat, so it can balance sebum production and at the same time deeply nourish the skin.
