A fashion trend or a complete bad taste? Andre Tan gave advice on how to wear leopard print clothes correctly
Ukrainian fashion designer Andre Tan advised on how to wear leopard print, which stylists call a trend and an anti-trend at the same time. He recalled that Christian Dior created the fashion for this pattern to emphasize status and strength, but subcultures imposed a completely different meaning on it.
Andre Tan on Instagram called balance the most important nuance in choosing a leopard print – it is important not to overdo it.
"I believe that you always need a measure. It's very important what you combine it with. It is very important when you combine it with basic things. That's why I don't mind the leopard trend, but everything should be in moderation," the fashion designer said.
He explained the overall meaning of the print from a historical perspective. It turns out that any explanation of this pattern means bravery, arrogance, audacity, and strength.
"In ancient Egypt, the leopard was always associated with evil. In China, it has always been a sign of bravery, and in Asia and Africa, leopard skin has always been the clothing of shamans and sorcerers. Therefore, the original meaning of this print is strength, strength, and strength again. Back in 1947, Christian Dior first started using the pattern as a print on fabric. It was he who created the leopard trend. And at first, this story was very status and elegant," said Andre Tan.
It is known that this print was the basis of the mob wife style, which originated from the era of the Italian mafia in the 20th century. It was given the status of a "kitty" and something low by the fashion of the youth subculture of punks and rockers.
"The status and luxury of the print was discredited. And do you know why? Because punk and rock artists became fashionable. And you know what happened next. So, instead of being chosen and sexy, the leopard was stamped with the stamp "Do you want to be a sexy kitty? Put on a leopard," the fashion designer explained.
