Ticktock doctor Karan Raj said that drinking coffee in the morning can be dangerous for health. According to the expert, at this time of day, the drink does more harm than good to the body.

On his TikTok, he posted a video explaining all the disadvantages of a morning cup of coffee (to watch the video, scroll to the end).

According to Raj, drinking a cup of flavored drink right after waking up is not as beneficial as it might seem at first glance. The boost of energy we supposedly feel from coffee is not quite the right name for the sensations we get with a cup of espresso, Americano, or cappuccino.

Dr. Karan said that after a person wakes up, their body automatically begins to generate increased levels of cortisol, the so-called stress hormone.

"Cortisol is responsible for our biological clock. When it is elevated, a person feels more alert. That is, when you wake up, the body itself provides vigor," the doctor says.

According to him, the point of cortisol is to allow a person to wake up without aids – "this is its direct purpose." At the same time, drinking coffee at the stage of elevated cortisol increases its level even more and thus confuses the body.

"This affects mood, energy, and eventually even sleep," says Karan Raj.

He added that the level of cortisol in our body itself rises on average three times a day: from 9 to 10 am, from 12 to 1 pm, and from 5 to 4 pm. In this regard, Dr. Raj advises drinking coffee between 10 and 12 and 2 and 5 pm.

For those who can't do without a cup of coffee in the morning, the doctor advises waiting at least one hour after waking up to allow cortisol to fulfill its function in the body.
