Scientists have identified two foods that reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease
Fish and olive oil, which are part of the Mediterranean diet, significantly reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease.
Spanish and American scientists have come to this conclusion after 10 years of observation. The experiment involved two groups of healthy people, one of whom, however, had a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer's disease.
During the experiment, its participants were required to keep food diaries and periodically take tests to check their cognitive abilities, wiley.com reports.
It turned out that people eating the Mediterranean diet, regardless of genetic predisposition, maintained cognitive abilities at an acceptable level for much longer, which indicated a reduced risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.
According to scientists, fish and olive oil were particularly effective. A large amount of these foods in the diet saved from dementia. If a person had a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer's disease, its symptoms were 19% less likely to occur, thanks to the consumption of fish and olive oil.
