For people from Western countries, the Soviet Union was a country from another planet. Households, traditions and products in stores were radically different.

OBOZREVATEL collected 10 products that surprised foreigners in the past - and would surely stun now. There was not canned water, did not drink birch juice and did not make "caviar" from zucchini.

Canned water

In the USSR, the navy issued canned drinking water in case of an emergency because sea water was unfit for drinking. The shelf life of the product was 4 years.

Canned water can be stored for 4 years.

Hematogen

Hematogen candies that increase hemoglobin were invented for soldiers. Deliciousness in the USSR was later given to children.

"Caviar" from zucchini
