Without mayonnaise and ketchup: how to cook shawarma in a new way with an unusual sauce
Despite the fact that shawarma is a delicious and beloved dish, it is not always healthy in the classic version. So, you can make it yourself in a new way – without harmful mayonnaise and spicy ketchup. By choosing the right ingredients for the filling and a healthy sauce, you'll get a perfectly balanced and fairly dietary meal.
Food blogger Maria Lysitsa (masha_lisitsia) shared a new recipe for shawarma with a healthy sauce on her Instagram page.
Ingredients:
- pita bread
- chicken fillet – 1-2 pieces
- soy sauce – 2 tbsp
- pepper
- red onion
- cucumber
- spices
Guacamole sauce:
- avocado – 1 pc
- tomato – 1 pc
- lemon juice
- salt, pepper
Sour cream sauce:
- sour cream – 250 g
- garlic – 1 clove
- herbs
- salt
Method of preparation:
1. Cut the chicken fillet. Marinate in oil and soy sauce, adding dried garlic and pepper. It takes about 30 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, cut all the vegetables into strips.
3. Next, fry the fillet until half-cooked.
4. Then add pepper and onion to the fillet. Fry until the chicken is cooked and the vegetables are soft.
5. For the guacamole sauce, mash the avocado. Add lemon juice, chopped tomatoes, salt and pepper.
6. For the sour cream sauce, mix sour cream, chopped garlic, and parsley. Add salt.
7. At this stage, spread the pita bread with white sauce, and put the chicken, guacamole, cucumber, and white sauce again. Wrap it up.
8. Fry the shawarma.
