Many people believe that prosecco and champagne are the same drink, just in different price categories. But in fact, this is not the case at all.
Sommelier Amanda McCrossin explained the difference between champagne and prosecco on TikTok. It turns out that it is striking.

According to McCrossin, there are three main differences between these drinks. First, it is the region of origin. Champagne comes from the Champagne region of France, while prosecco comes from the Veneto region of Italy.
Prosecco is produced from only one species.

The second difference is grape varieties. For example, champagne can only be made from three types: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. These are quite serious grape varieties that give the drink its tone and structure. At the same time, prosecco is made only from the friendly, fruity Glera grape, which is much lighter than the previous ones.
The difference is obvious.

The third difference is the fermentation process. In champagne, this repeated process is started in still wine by the addition of yeast and sugar. When the former eats the latter, carbon dioxide is produced. But in prosecco, the process takes place in large autoclave baths, where it is cleaned of dead yeast residues. This keeps prosecco fresh and fruity.
